Patty Mills earned a start ahead of Dejounte Murray for San Antonio, but the Boomers star didn’t make the most of the opportunity in a 112-92 loss to Golden State.

While Mills chalked up his 600th career 3-pointer he managed only six points and three assists in his 28 minutes on court, hitting just two from seven field goals.

Andrew Bogut missed the LA Lakers’ victory over Portland due to a back injury.

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 113 — LOS ANGELES LAKERS 100

Portland and LA traded late blows before in-form guard Lillard settled the match with a stunning, step-back dagger with just 0.7 seconds left on the clock.

Kyle Kuzma got a surprisingly good look to answer but his shot came up just short as the Trail Blazers improved to 5-4.

Lillard led all scorers with 32 points, and also had six rebounds and five assists, continuing an brilliant run of scoring form.

“Last night in Utah we lost a tough one in overtime and I had an opportinity at the end of the game, the same opportunity,” Lillard said after the match.

“I got in too deep and got my shot blocked.

“... Tonight it’s crazy that we end up back in that same position.

“The coach knew that I wanted it again. I kind of had to redeem myself and come through for the team. We needed this win so I’m happy to see it go through.”

Jusuf Nurkic (28) and C.J McCollum were also strong contributors for Portland while centre Brook Lopez (27 points, three rebounds, one assist) was big for the Lakers.

Lonzo Ball failed to score in 28 minutes on court for L.A, missing his only two shots while contributing three rebounds and four assists.

The performance promoted criticism from some pundits, while others defended the rookie star, pointing to his strengths in other areas.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS 112 — SAN ANTONIO SPURS 92

Klay Thompson scored 27 points as the Golden State Warriors recovered from an early mauling to score a 112-92 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

A stormy encounter between the two Western Conference big guns saw Warriors coach Steve Kerr lose his cool on the sidelines before Spurs counterpart Gregg Popovich was ejected late in the game.

Popovich was tossed in the fourth quarter after picking up a second technical foul following an altercation with a member of the officiating crew.

Courtside microphones picked up Popovich swearing at the referee before he was given his marching orders.

Kerr also risked ejection in the first quarter, and needed to be held back by assistant Mike Brown after he was handed a technical foul.

The tirade by the Warriors coach came as the Spurs jumped out to a 28-12 first quarter lead.

The reigning NBA Finals champions gradually began chipping away at the deficit and had closed the gap to 34-24 by the end of the first quarter.

Thompson’s 27-point haul led the scoring for the Warriors, with three rebounds and two assists.

Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry also weighed in with 20-point hauls as the Warriors improved to 6-3 and climbed to third in the Western Conference.

Durant scored 24 points with eight rebounds while Curry had 21 points. Draymond Green also cracked double digits with 16 points.

LaMarcus Aldridge led the scoring for San Antonio with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Kyle Anderson added 16 points.

Spanish veteran Pau Gasol was the only other Spurs player to reach double figures, with 11 points. The defeat saw San Antonio fall to 10th with a 4-4 record.
