THE Sydney Kings are still weighing up the pros and cons of bringing in former Brisbane Bullets guard Jeremy Kendle as a replacement for injured captain Kevin Lisch.

Coach Andrew Gaze was happy with the way Kendle worked out with the team this morning but the club is yet to make a decision on him.

“He didn’t hurt himself and did real well at practice,” Gaze said.

“I’ve known Jeremy for a few years from when he was at Bendigo and I coached against him with the Melbourne Tigers. He was outstanding and guided them to an SEABL title.

“He’s a great talent and a very good scorer, a good athlete, a solid defender and a smart individual. We saw him in the NBL last year with the Brisbane Bullets, he performed admirably in that situation. The good thing about him is he’s here and available to play.”

The Kings confirmed there would be no changes to their current contracted playing group regardless of which course they took in finding a replacement for Lisch. Any new player would be signed under the NBL injury waiver provisions.

“Defensively we’ve been well below where we need to be,” Gaze said

“With Kevin that’s one of his great strengths, he’s an elite on-ball defender and he does set the tone for us so it’s a huge blow for what he brings in all departments but mostly on the defensive end.”

The Kings face a tough road schedule starting on Thursday night in Auckland. They then take on Adelaide, Illawarra and Perth before returning home to play on November 5th against Illawarra.
