A second half penalty has given Syria a draw, and while that call was a shocking one, the home side dominated the final half hour of the match. Australia have nobody to blame but themselves after missing a host of chances in the first half and early into the second, and now will have to either draw 0-0, win via penalties after a 1-1 draw, or win in Sydney next week to advance.

Not the worst result, all things considered, but you have to think that that game should have been beyond any sort of doubts in the first hour or so. Thanks for following along, we'll be back on Tuesday for the return leg in Sydney.

Brilliant run again from Al Khatib before he cuts it bak to Al Somah in the middle - from close range it's off Ryan, then off the bar and then back into the arms of the keeper. Phew. 77 minutes gone, 1-0 Australia.

Leckie gives away a free kick down the flank, Jafal goes direct and it's headed clear by Behich...but the rebound sees a second foul and a free kick in central area...Khribin's effort deflects off the wall, and luckily for Australia, just to the other side of the post with Ryan stranded. 68 minutes gone, 1-0 Australia. 

Mooy goes direct, it's into the wall and away for a corner...which comes to nothing. 65 minutes gone, 1-0 Australia. 

Khribin clatters into the back of Milligan who has had absolute chunks taken out of him tonight. How was that not a yellow? Anyway, dead ball for Australia about 30 yards out. 64 minutes gone, 1-0 Australia.
