Spain is on top of the tennis world, with Garbine Muguruza joining Rafael Nadal as world number one after the US Open.
Despite losing in the fourth round, Muguruza jumped up from third to first to replace quarter-finalist Karolina Pliskova at the top, while New York champion Sloane Stephens leapt from 83rd to 17th.
Winning her first major title in Flushing Meadows was the culmination of a remarkable comeback from injury by Stephens.
The 24-year-old has rocketed up 940 places in five weeks, after being ranked 957th in the world as recently as the start of August.
It is Stephens' highest ranking since she was number 16 in the world in May of 2014 and just off her career-high of 11 from 2013.
As far as Australians are concerned, Ashleigh Barty was Australia's best performer, moving up six places to a career-high ranking of 37.
Daria Gavrilova dropped one spot to 21st, just in front of recent new mother Serena Williams, with Samantha Stosur dropping five places to 49 after missing the year's final major through injury.
On the men's side, Roger Federer moved to second place behind champion Nadal, with runner-up Kevin Anderson moving from 32nd to 17th.
Nick Kyrgios, down three to 20th, and Jordan Thompson, up three to 70, remain the only Australians in the men's top 100.
