A MOTORCYCLIST has died after hitting a barrier, causing him to fall over the side of an overpass on a busy eastern suburbs road today.
The man was riding along Old South Head Rd in Bondi Junction when he crashed into a barrier about 1.20pm.
The impact of the collision sent him over the side of the overpass.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said he died at the scene.
His bike continued moving along the road and crashed into other vehicles.
The motorcyclist has not yet been formally identified.
Crime scene officers and the crash investigation unit are at the scene.
As a result of the fatal crash, traffic banked up along Syd Einfeld Drive and Old South Head Rd, and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
Old South Head Rd is closed in the northbound direction, and there is no access from Syd Einfeld Drive onto Old South Head Rd.
Eastbound and outbound motorists can use Edgecliff Rd to access Old South Head Rd.
