One Nation leader Pauline Hanson wore a burqa into the Senate chamber in Canberra today.
Hanson entered the chamber fully covered in the black garment, and removed the headpiece to take the floor for an address in which she called for the banning of burqas in public on grounds of national security.
Attorney-general George Brandis quickly responded on behalf of the government, saying to “ridicule the community and mock its religious garments is an appalling thing to doâ€.
His response received a standing ovation and extended applause by the sitting members.
