Every month Netflix Australia, Stan, Amazon Prime Video and Foxtel Now add new content, so we’ve picked out a few highlights for August.

Put August 10 in the diary, for a whole lot of new movies released on Australian SVOD services.

On Netflix; drama Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, neo-noir action thriller John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves, Mad Max: Fury Road starring Charlize Theron, and The Lego Movie will be released then, while Stan will feature American/Swedish comedy Swedish Dicks: Season 1.

The Other Guy is a Stan original series and in the trailer below you may recognise Aussie comedian and former Triple J breakfast radio host Matt Okine who wrote and stars as the main character, AJ, who’s just gone through a breakup and is exploring the highs and pitfalls of the modern dating world. Harriet Dyer as his best friend Stevie is a stand-out new talent and delivers perfect one-liners with excellent comedic timing.

If you liked 1993 cult movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray, then you might also like Netflix’s new original move Naked. Instead of a whole day, one hour repeats itself over and over. Marlon Wayans of the Wayans brothers stars as Rob, who’s madly in love and about to be married. Unfortunately, he’s also naked, stuck in an elevator 20 blocks away from the church and caught in a time loop, unable to get to his own wedding.

Marvel’s Doctor Strange takes the viewer on a mind-bending, multi-universe journey of sorcery and self-discovery. Fans of Inception will appreciate the out-of-the-box storyline and visual effects.

If you’re a James Bond fan, you’re in luck. To celebrate 55 years of James Bond this year, a special Bond Pop-Up channel celebrating with every movie from Dr. No to Spectre will be available to watch on Foxtel On Demand. Will Daniel Craig reprise his role for the next Bond movie — even after saying he’d rather ‘break glass and slash his own wrists‘ than play the part again? Only time will tell.
