THE identity and cause of death of a woman found dead in a Melbourne hotel room after joining a buck’s party remains a mystery.

The women’s fully-clothed body was found by emergency services in the shower of a room at the Oaks serviced apartments in Melbourne’s CBD.

Officers had been called to the address about 8am on Sunday.

The room was one of three rented out by a group of 11 men who had travelled from interstate, some from NSW and others from the ACT, to celebrate a buck’s night.

The group is believed to have gone to an AFL game before going clubbing until about 3am.

The woman reportedly accompanied some of the men back to one of the hotel rooms about that time.

While it remains unclear what happened in the intervening hours, according to the Seven Network one of the men said he woke to discover the woman dead in the shower about 8am.

Members of the group declined to tell reporters who the dead woman was or how they met her.

One of the buck’s party guests reportedly said they initially thought they had been “stitched up”.

Police have not said whether the woman was known to the men.

The woman is believed to be aged in her 20s. She was found wearing a black, long-sleeved top, blue denim shorts and white running shoes.

Police on Monday said the death was not being treated as suspicious, and a cause of death was yet to be confirmed.

“The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated and further reports are expected to assist with the cause of death,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

Police have been running forensic tests and an autopsy was done overnight to find out what happened to the mystery woman.

Homicide detectives yesterday took four men into custody for questioning, before they were released overnight.

The men were aged in their late 20s and early 30s, and were from the ACT and NSW.

A crime scene was established at the hotel, where forensic police spent Sunday gathering evidence.

The Herald-Sunreported there were 11 men at the buck’s party in the two bedroom apartment on level 10 of the Market St building.

One of them phoned emergency services after finding the woman unconscious in the shower.

While four have been detained, the remainder of the group have returned interstate.

Fairfax Media reported the group rented three rooms at the hotel and went to the football, before heading to King Street nightclub Cloud 9.
