Two men charged with machete attack on Gold Coast.

TWO men have been charged with attacking a couple with a machete on the Gold Coast after the couple foiled their attempted robbery.

Thirty-four-year-old Michael Liddell and 35-year-old Ingrid Brown were woken by a noise about 2am on Saturday to find two men outside their Coombabah property.

The men, who were believed to be attempting to steal items from neighbouring homes and construction sites, fled when they were challenged by the couple.

Police alleged the pair returned to the property about 3.50am and attacked couple with a machete.

Ms Brown was struck in the face while the Mr Liddell was struck in the forearm. Both were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital and underwent surgery.

Gold Coast district duty officer Senior Sergeant Chris Tritton described it as a “deeply disturbing attack” to the Courier Mail.

“We’re just lucky it hasn’t been a fatal attack,” he said.

“Both victims will have scars for life and the female will carry psychological scars as well.”

It is understood Ms Brown will require major reconstructive surgery as a result of her severe facial injuries. Mr Liddell is likely to have permanent tendon damage to his forearm.

An 18-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were found nearby a short time later. They were each charged on Saturday with one count of unlawful possession of stolen property and two counts of acts intended to maim, disfigure or disable.

They’ll appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday 3 June.
