1. DUP and Conservatives sign “£1 billion†deal to support minority Tory government. The deal is reportedly a ‘confidence and supply’ arrangement, where the DUP will support the Conservative minority government and vote with it on the Queen’s speech this week.
2. EU citizens living in the UK will be forced to apply for identity cards after Brexit. Any European citizen remaining in the UK after the date Britain leaves the EU will be forced to apply for a new “residence document†in order to achieve “settled status†allowing them to stay in the UK.
3. The US firm that supplied cladding used on London’s Grenfell Tower has ended global sales of the product for use in high-rise blocks. Arconic said it was discontinuing sales due to “issues†identified by the fire, which is feared to have killed at least 79.
4. The US Supreme Court has allowed most of US president Donald Trump’s travel ban to take effect. On Monday the court lifted most of the injunctions placed on the ban, which temporarily restricts travel to the US by citizens from six majority-Muslim countries and from all refugees, and agreed to hear the case during later in the year..
5. Trump says former US president Barack Obama “colluded or obstructed†with his actions after Russia meddled in the 2016 US election. “The reason that President Obama did NOTHING about Russia after being notified by the CIA of meddling is that he expected Clinton would win and did not want to ‘rock the boat,’†Trump tweeted. “He didn’t ‘choke,’ he colluded or obstructed, and it did the Dems and Crooked Hillary no good.â€
6. Trump is eager for a big meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin when the two are in Germany for a multinational summit next month. But the idea is exposing deep divisions within the Trump administration on the best way to approach Moscow in the midst of an ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the US elections.
7. Facebook is looking ready for a big push into TV shows, and could spend millions on a single episode. It would put Facebook close to Netflix’s first big splash, “House of Cards,†which cost a reported $US4.5 million per episode.
8. Germany says Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s security guards aren’t welcome at the G20 summit next week. The security agents were charged for violent scuffles in Washington last month.
9. Al-Qaeda have freed a Swedish hostage held in Mali since 2011. Johan Gustafsson, 42, is being flown back to Sweden from Africa, according to Sweden’s foreign minister Margot Wallström.
10. Painter Salvador Dali’s body will be exhumed for paternity test. A judge in Madrid has ordered the exhumation of the body of Spanish artist to get samples for a law suit.
