Richmond's Bachar Houli has been banned for two weeks by the AFL tribunal for striking Carlton's Jed Lamb, with West Coast's Will Schofield next up to challenge his controversial ban for hitting Melbourne's Clayton Oliver.

Houli's case was sent directly to the tribunal by the MRP after the incident in the opening quarter of Sunday's match between the Tigers and the Blues at the MCG.

Houli was running downfield with Lamb right behind him when the Richmond utility swung his arm back and caught the young Carlton player in the head.

Lamb fell to the ground and lay face down. He was taken from the field with concussion and played no further part in the game.

In his defence, Houli referred to comments made by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Waleed Aly in an attempt to prove his character, but the tribunal still registered a guilty verdict, ruling him out until round 17.

The prosecution had been hoping to see a four-match suspension, but the tribunal said Houli's good character was a factor

West Coast's Schofield will face the tribunal — via video link from Perth — after the Eagles decided on Tuesday to challenge the defender's ban by the MRP for a half-time hit on Melbourne's Clayton Oliver.

Schofield was handed a two-match ban, which could have been reduced to one match with an early plea.

The club's decision to contest the charge means he could miss the Eagles' round 15 and 16 games against Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide.
