A man whose body was found shot in a house in Melbourne's west yesterday may have been dead for up to a week, police say.
Police said the body of a 49-year-old man of Asian appearance was found by a visitor to the home on Erin Square in Deer Park about 4:25pm on Monday.
Detective Inspector Tim Day said neighbours reported hearing gunshots about a week earlier on June 20 about 3:00am.
"It's believed he may have been deceased for up to a week," Detective Inspector Day said.
"There will be a reason behind this, there's always a reason behind it.
"Police are appealing for anyone who may have heard a gunshot at about that time to contact Crime Stoppers."
Detective Inspector Day said the man was running a sewing business at the house.
He called for anyone who knew the man, or had done business at the house to come forward.
Police have not publicly released the man's identity, but confirmed he had relatives in Melbourne.
