4. The suburbs getting the NBN this year via world-first fibre-to-the-kerb technology have been revealed. However, only a few select houses will be trialling it in the short term before a full commercial rollout happens in 2018. Meanwhile, the consumer watchdog is ramping up its plans to keep the NBN retailers honest, calling for volunteers to have their broadband speed monitored.

5. Malcolm Turnbull’s hand-picked expert to transformation the government’s digital capabilities has now defected to the private sector. Fintech hub Stone & Chalk has signed Paul Shetler to advise startups and corporates on how to manage the change into the new digital economy, in his first gig since leaving the federal government’s Digital Transformation Agency last November.
