AFL: Port Adelaide believe they can end their winless streak against Geelong next week at Kardinia Park.

PORT Adelaide is ready to fire up in its indigenous jumper twice this season — both times at night and against the modern era’s most dominant clubs.

The Power will wear the Nathan Krakouer-designed uniform to open up the AFL’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round against Geelong at Kardinia Park tonight and then against Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval next Thursday night.

It is the first time it has been able to wear the indigenous jumper at home the week after the AFL indigenous round because Geelong’s colours allowed it to be black rather than white.

Port Adelaide will celebrate its own cultural recognition match against Hawthorn.

Karl Telfer, pictured with some of Port Adelaide’s players, will be the senior custodian of ceremony and say welcome to country ahead of the game next Thursday night.

The guernsey features a boomerang motif, the Aboriginal flag and the year 1967 to commemorate the referendum that year after which indigenous Australians and Torres Strait Islanders were to be included in the census.

There are also nine hands on the guernsey which represent the club’s indigenous players: Krakouer, Chad Wingard, Karl Amon, Jarman Impey, Paddy Ryder, Jake Neade, Brendon Ah Chee, Sam Powell-Pepper and Aidyn Johnson.
