The just-announced Amazon Echo Show is already popular, at least according to Amazon.
The black version of the device, unveiled Tuesday, currently sits atop Amazon's list of best-selling electronics. The white Echo Show is slightly less popular, coming in at No. 4.
Top placement on the updated-hourly list would seem to be a strong sign of interest in the touchscreen device, the latest in Amazon's run of voice-activated, Alexa-enabled gadgets. However, there is no independent verification or any actual preorder numbers from Amazon.
A wider look at the rankings suggests that Amazon has Alexa to thank for the Echo Show's apparent instant popularity. The voice-activated digital assistant is a feature in eight of the top 10 gadgets on the list.
At $230, the Echo Show is Amazon's most expensive Alexa gadget to date and a slight departure from the hands-free approach that made the original Amazon Echo smart speaker appealing.
A strong start for preorders would likely come as a relief for the online retail giant, especially after recent reports of a lukewarm reception for Amazon's other new Alexa gadget, the $200 Amazon Echo Look camera. Still in an invite-only phase, the Echo Look doesn't qualify for the sales list just yet.
The Echo Show is set for release on June 28.
Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
