A CLOSE family friend has remembered the victim of last night’s fatal shooting in Melbourne’s southeast as a “very special boy.”

Naile, who did not wish to give her surname, is the aunt of one of the young men who lives at the Keysborough house where three men in their early twenties were shot about 10pm Tuesday.

A 22-year-old man was gunned down as he left a gathering at a friend’s house last night — in what police have called a complex and concerning murder scene.

Two other men, aged 23 and 22, were also shot by gunmen in the garage of the townhouse.

The victims remain in a stable condition in the Alfred and Dandenong hospitals.

Naile said there were ‘no words’ to express her devastation at his death as the families of the young men were extremely close.

“He was a very special boy, respectable and known as a good guy,” she said.

“It’s such a tragedy that this has happened. He came from a nice family that were decent,

“He was not a kid with any trouble,” she said.

Naile said the two men that were also shot were ‘doing very bad.’

“They’re just so devastated,”

“They’re in hospital and one of them is waiting for surgery. They were just watching video games and this happened.”

The Herald Sun understands the deceased man did not live at the house and was visiting friends when he was shot dead.

Inspector Mark Langhorn said detectives were yet to establish a motive for the triple shooting but all avenues were being investigated.

“We’re concerned about the nature of the crime and will be putting a lot of police presence into this area,” he said.

Neighbour Philip Gruszka was the first person to arrive on the scene and said there were at least five people in the house at the time.

“I could see someone on the ground being resuscitated by paramedics,” Mr Gruszka said.

“The other people in the house told me they were playing video games in the garage when one of them got up to leave and that’s when the shots were fired,” he said.

Witnesses have reported seeing a black 4WD and light coloured hatchback speeding away from the scene.

A neighbour who did not wish to be named said they had witnessed activity in the laneway almost nightly for the past month.

“There’s always cars coming and going and we often see them leave packages at the laneway only for a car to come drive by and pick them up seconds later,” the neighbour said.

The neighbour said other residents living in the area had also noticed the activity and had previously made reports to the police.

Inspector Langhorn said the victims and other people who were at the gathering had “very little involvement with police.”

“We’re still investigating whether the location is an issue,” he said.

A friend of the victims arrived to collect a car from the laneway behind the house this morning but was tight lipped about what had happened the night before.

The young man said his injured friends were “doing OK” but refused to comment further.

A neighbour who lives two doors down from the house where the shooting happened said she heard a car speed down the laneway moments after gunshots.

There are visible skid marks through the laneway.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said this morning: “One man who was shot in the chest was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived.

“He couldn’t be revived.

“Another man was shot in the leg. He was treated by paramedics and taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

“A third man was shot in the arm. He was taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.”

Neighbour Valid Sourghalr told the Herald Sun this morning he was watching television when he heard gunshots.

“I heard five shots, then a pause and then another five or six shots,” Mr Sourghalr said.

“We’ve been living here a few years and it’s just unbelievable.”

Another neighbour, Patricia Jansen, said she moved to the area, about 40km from Melbourne’s CBD, two years ago because she considered it a safe neighbourhood.

“We bought this place because it was supposed to be nice and quiet. It’s pretty scary,” she said.

Neighbour Andrea, who asked her surname be withheld, said last night she saw two cars speed from the scene seconds after the shooting.

Men and women were crying as they were comforted by police, she said.

“There are so many cops here, about 20 cop cars, and they’ve blocked the area,” she said.

She and her husband had looked outside their home when they heard gunshots about 9.45pm, and saw an orange or red car, and a silver car, drive away.

Apart from the vehicles leaving, they noticed no other disturbance on the road and so went back inside.

“Then two minutes later we heard the sirens,” she said.

“We came back out and there were people crying ... there was a lady in there and a man crying too.

“They (police) were trying to get everyone in their houses, they were not letting anyone outside.”

The home which was targeted is part of a block of modern two-storey townhouses.

Police were on Tuesday night searching through the laneway behind the house where the victims garage opened on to.

Shotgun shells in the alley behind the home were marked off by police outside the garage leading to the victims’ property.

Multiple shells were found outside the home as forensic offices arrived at the scene.

One neighbour, Arun, said he had heard a series of loud bangs before rushing out to see two cars speeding down his street.

“We ran outside after hearing about four bangs and saw two sedans,” he said.

“It was right after we heard the shots and we heard screams of pain not long after.

“It’s a very nice suburb but there’s often cars racing down the street so we didn’t think much of it.”

Another nearby resident said they had seen a black four-wheel drive in the area just before hearing the shooting.

Nearby resident Nick, who asked for his surname to be withheld, said he heard “five or six” gun shots.

“There was literally five or six massive ‘bangs’ in a row,” he said.

“Initially, I thought it was fireworks because we get quite a lot of that around here ... but it didn’t have the ‘fizz’ at the end, it was just straight ‘bangs’.

“It was quite loud — it sounded like it was in my backyard even though it is a block away.”

He said five police cars, followed by ambulances, were on the scene within minutes.
