THE world’s largest airline, Emirates, has been named best in the world in TripAdvisor’s first ever annual Travellers Choice awards for airlines.

The travel site, known for its consumer reviews on hotels and attractions around the world, opened itself up to airline reviews last year.

“We are proud to announce the inaugural Travellers’ Choice awards for airlines, to help travellers make the most well-informed air travel decisions, based on the experiences of the global TripAdvisor community,” said Bryan Saltzburg, senior vice president and general manager for TripAdvisor Flights.

Qantas was named Australia’s best airline for its “fantastic service” and “good value”, making it a “pleasure to fly with”, with the airline scoring an average review rating of 4 out of 5 bubbles.

Emirates is no stranger to awards having been named world’s best airline at the World Airport Awards last year, the fourth time it has bagged top place since the awards began 15 years ago.

Reviews on TripAdvisor said “best airline I have ever flown,” “best flight of my life” and “simply the best.”

The TripAdvisor awards were based on the quantity and quality of airline reviews and ratings submitted by travellers worldwide over the last 12 months and the winners were praised for having outstanding service, quality and value.

More surprsingly, Russia’s Aeroflot won best business class and favourite Air New Zealand took out best premium economy.

“The airline industry is investing billions of dollars in new aircraft and service enhancements to differentiate the flying experience and these awards recognise the carriers offering the very best experiences and value to the travelling public,” says Saltzburg.
