qantasRichard Goyder will add Qantas board membership to his chairmanship of Woodside Petroleum and the AFL Commission after he steps down as Wesfarmers managing director.

Qantas says Goyder has agreed to seek election to the airline’s board as a non-executive director in October, and will commence his duties the following month after stepping down from Wesfarmers, the owner of Coles and Bunnings.

“Richard has led one of Australia’s largest and most diverse companies for more than 12 years, through a period of significant change and growth,” Qantas chairman Leigh Clifford said in a statement.

“As well as his achievements with Wesfarmers, he’s respected as a clear voice for the business community on broader economic and policy issues.”

Goyder, who will join Woodside in 2018, began as chair of the AFL Commission on April 4.

“Very few companies have shaped Australia like Qantas, so it’s an honour to be asked to join its board,” Goyder said.
