Jason Day's Masters campaign is seemingly on track with the Australian world No.3 settling into practice at Augusta National over the weekend.

Day's pursuit of his first green jacket was cast into serious doubt when the 29 -year-old withdrew from the World Golf Championships-Match Play in late March, emotionally revealing his mother Dening had been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Ohio-based Day flew Dening to his home in Columbus to undergo surgery on March 24 and she's now resting.

The Queenslander played nine holes at Augusta on Friday (Saturday AEDT) and another nine on Saturday before some late-afternoon short-game work with long- time caddie and coach, Colin Swatton.

Day's wife, Ellie, and children Dash, 4, and Lucy, 1, are back in Ohio caring for Dening.

Day said his focus was clearer after Dening "successfully underwent surgery".

"Obviously, we still have to wait to see [about] chemo but we feel much better about things," he said.

"I didn't even want to be on the golf course. It was a struggle for me to play golf."

Unless Dening's situation changes, Day is set for his seventh Masters appearance, looking to better his runner-up finish in 2011, as well top-10 showings in 2013 and 2016.
