In our latest Inside Retail poll, we want to know what our readers make of the impending entry by Schwarz Group into Australia with either the Kaufland or Lidl grocery chains.

While Kaufman’s success in Eastern Europe has been largely based on fewer players competing within its unique hypermarket discounter category blend, the Australian market hasn’t even gone down the hypermarket path – as yet. And while the recent noise has been about Kaufland opening, some analysts think we may in fact see the hypermarket retailer’s cousin, Lidl, enter instead.

Will the likes of Woolworths and Coles be concerned about another savvy German operator entering the market? Or will Schwarz Group’s arch-rival in Aldi be the one with alarm bells ringing?
