Australia’s ‘Top 1000′ companies accounted for $1.98 trillion in revenue last year according to a report compiled by business analysts at IBISWorld.
The report, which shows detailed and diverse insights into the nation’s largest companies showed total revenue for the list has grown 1.9 per cent since last year.
However, net profit after tax (NPAT) has declined significantly. This was partly due to some poor performances among the top 10 companies, which account for just less than 20 per cent of all revenue on the list.
The top 10 includes Wesfarmers, taking the top spot with a total revenue of $66.2 million, followed by Woolworths at $58.6 million.
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia rose two ranks and is now at three with a total revenue of $44.3 million. Westpac Banking Corporation went up from seventh spot to fourth, with a total revenue of $37.66 million. NAB is in fifth, followed by Rio Tinto. ANZ Banking Group rose one spot and is now at seventh. BHP Billiton on the eighth, Telstra, ninth and NSW Health at tenth.
Newcomers on the list include Central Equity, COFCO, NBN Co, Atlassian and Goodline.
Kogan.com, the only pureplay online retailer to have made the 2015 list, dropped off this year’s list of Australia’s most successful companies.
Speaking to Internet Retailing, an IBISWorld analyst explained that the drop-off is not related to Kogan.com’s financial performance over the current year.
“IBISWorld previously had estimates for the company based on guidance provided by Kogan. However, since the company has listed, more information has become available.
“IBISWorld has adjusted revenue for 2015-16 based on the latest available information,†the spokesperson said.
