Visitors are slowly returning to Ardent Leisure's theme parks after four people died on Dreamworld's Thunder River Rapids ride in October, but revenue is still down.

Ardent Leisure said the number of theme park visitors in February was down 33.6 per cent on a year earlier.

Ardent Leisure earnings report

The owner of Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld says a 45-closure of the park resulted in a huge loss for the half.

The February fall was an improvement on January, when visitor numbers were down 44 per cent, and on December, when they were 63.5 per cent lower.

In a trading update on Tuesday, Ardent Leisure said its theme park revenue in February of $4.4 million was 35 per cent lower than the previous February's $6.78 million.

But, it was an improvement on January and December which, respectively, suffered a 50.4 per cent and a 63 per cent fall from the prior corresponding periods.

Ardent Leisure said it would launch a new marketing campaign - featuring Guy Sebastian's song Pure Imagination and the Yugambeh Youth Choir - as Dreamworld continued to return to normal trading.

The company last month reported a $49.4 million loss for the December half following the Dreamworld accident.

Ardent slashed the value of the Gold Coast park in its books to $147 million after the incident on its Thunder River Rapids Ride, which cost the lives of four people and led the company to close the park for 45 days.

Over the next few months, Ardent will change its name to Main Event, which was approved by shareholders at last year's annual general meeting.

Shares in Ardent Leisure were 4.0 cents, or 2.57 per cent, higher at $1.595 at 1058 AEDT.
