A TWITTER user has shared the moment a fully-loaded passenger jet attempted to land at England’s Manchester Airport, rocking side-to-side in wild weather.
Pilots attempted to bring the Icelandair flight down as a violent storm battered the British Isles.
They were forced to abort as the huge aircraft swayed on every axis, tipping forward and back from nose to tail while swinging from left to right, as it approached the runway.
The incident caused the plane to run so low on fuel pilots declared a state of emergency.
Fortunately it was able to land safely on the second attempt.
“We can confirm that Icelandair flight FI440 did declare a state of emergency at Manchester airport in order to be placed at the front of the queue for landing, as is standard procedure when an aircraft starts to run slightly low on fuel, but there were no other problems to report other than this,†a spokeswoman told the Evening Standard.
“The landing was straight forward if a little bumpy due to the high winds.â€
It was far from being the airport’s only hair-raising ride.
Gust blew up to 85 kilometre per hour as an enormous Airbus A380 came in to land.
Despite the fact the hulking aircraft was far more stable than the Icelandair flight, pilots were forced to abort twice due to the gale.
In the end, the Twitter account @airlivenet reported the superjumbo was diverted to London, where landed safely.
