The administrators of fashion retailers, Herringbone and Rhodes and Beckett, have closed seven stores as they seek a buyer for the luxury clothing retailers.
Three Herringbone stores and four Rhodes and Beckett stores closed a week after the administrators were called in, with 10 jobs being lost in Perth – where neither brand now has a store.
“As we seek to find a buyer for the businesses, it’s important to limit ongoing losses,†said Bruno Secatore, managing partner of administrator Cor Cordis, in a statement yesterday.
“The closure of these stores is a difficult step but it is integral to the continued presence of these brands in the Australian market.â€
The underperforming Herringbone stores were in Perth, Melbourne and Chatswood, in Sydney’s north.
Perth and Chatswood also lost Rhodes and Beckett stores, as did Brisbane and Sydney’s Macquarie Place.
With other staff redeployed to other outlets, the two businesses – which are majority owned and supplied by German apparel maker van Laack GmbH – now have a total of 22 stores and 136 employees.
“The sale of the businesses is continuing, and we have been encouraged by the level of response to our recent advertisements,†Secatore said.
“These are strong brands, they are sought after brands, and finding a buyer remains our highest priority.â€
The first creditors’ meeting is scheduled for today in Melbourne.
