Victorian man killed by New Year's Eve fireworks

A Victorian man has been killed by an exploding firecracker.

Paramedics were called to assist the man in his 40s about 9.45pm on New Year's Eve after a report he was seriously injured by a firecracker, east of Melbourne.

Police have confirmed the man, from Hollands Landing in Gippsland, died at the scene.

Investigations into how the accident occurred are continuing.
