EVERY granddaughter is special, but as the first in both her parents’ families, baby Isla was an especially welcome addition.
For mum Brooke Clarke and dad Derick Peachey, being the first made it all the more important to honour their families in her name, giving her the middle name Myrene after Derick’s nanna.
“My partner is very close to his nan and pop, we were going to do our mums’ first names together, but we thought his nan was special and she appreciated it a lot,†mum Brooke says. “She cried, she just cried, she was very surprised and very pleased and happy.â€
Isla was born a week early according to her doctor’s calculations, but according to Brooke, was right on time. “Right at the beginning of the pregnancy I always had that date in my mind that she was really going to come on then and she did,†she said.
While still a newborn, mostly “eating and sleepingâ€, her personality is starting to show through during her favourite activities: bath time and playing with her dad.
“She’s very observant, she loves looking around and staring at her dad when he talks. She’s starting to smile and starting to show she understands our voices and who we are,†Brooke says.
“And she absolutely loves bath time, she falls asleep sometimes, she starts crying when you get her naked but as soon as you pop her in she settles and starts to fall asleep in the bath.â€
The family celebrated her first Christmas with both their families, including Derick’s, who Âall travelled to Sydney from Dubbo to share the special occasion.
