IF YOU DIDN’T manage to scoop up the Christmas gifts you were hoping for, don’t fret.
There’s still plenty of time to grab the prezzies for the gadget lovers in your life.
Whether the special person in your life is a fitness freak or even if you’re planning to splash out with a laptop or tablet, and don’t know which to go for, we’ve got you covered.
Here is Lee’s rundown of the essential pieces of tech for the tech lovers out there.
Best Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 900
If you’re going to go all out and treat someone (or yourself) to a laptop but don’t quite have the funds for a Macbook, the best Windows alternative is the Yoga 900.
This is Lenovo’s slimmest convertible yet thanks to its Intel’s latest Core processor. And better still, it’s even thinner than a Macbook Air, measuring just 14.9mm thick.
In good old Lenovo Yoga style, the 900’s screen can be flexed 360 degrees, turning the device into a tablet. Something a Macbook can’t do. It’s a fresh, fun and innovative device with fast and responsive performance all built into the slimmest chassis you’ve ever set eyes on.
Best Tablet: Microsoft Surface Pro 4
If you or someone special to you is in the market for a brand new tablet this year, the Surface Pro 4 could be a contender, especially if they need a new laptop too, as it can replace that as well.
For most tasks you’d require a laptop for, including basic design work, the Surface Pro 4 will do the job.
Its price of $1349 for the basic model and keyboard means it’s not likely to tempt standard iPad or tablet users, but in place of a laptop the cost becomes more palatable.
Whether it’s for a daily work commute, jet-selling lifestyle, or just slouching in front of the TV, the detachable Surface Pro 4 offers high-powered performance in a compact, stylish design.
Best smartphone: Apple iPhone 7
While diehard Android fans won’t agree, the iPhone 7 is yet another victory for Apple, and is still the greatest smartphone in the world.
It’s by far the best phone on the market right now, so if you’re willing to splash out to get the best handset available this Christmas, this is it.
Apple’s new gizmo is, well, a lot like the last one: pretty much perfect, with an even better camera, water resistance and super slick iOS 10 interface.
Best speaker: Sonos Play: 1
If you’re in the market for the small speak with a big sound, look no further than the Sonos Play: 1, the most affordable Sonos player yet.
If you’re looking to upgrade from a tiny Bluetooth speaker to something with a little more punch, this multiroom speaker doesn’t just have a great sound quality and glorious build, it’s future proof, as connects to your devices over Wi-Fi, freeing your Bluetooth up for other things, while having a much wider range.
Walk anywhere in your without disconnecting, as long as you’re connected to Wi-Fi you’re good to go. At $248, it’s a great compact speaker for rocking around the Christmas tree this festive period.
Best headphones: Bose QC35 Noise-Cancelling Wireless Headphones
If you’re looking to drown out those jingle bells this Christmas, these noise-isolating cans are the best you can get your mittens on.
Not only are they completely wireless, freeing up your hands to do other important Christmassy things, like munching mince pies, but they can block out all annoying external sounds.
If the eardrum-splitting screams of needy children is too much to bear, pop on the Bose QC35 headphones and boom, it’s like you’re in another, child-free world.
Available for $399, they don’t come cheap, but noise cancellation feature is too good to overlook. It’s also well matched with the comfort offered by the earphones’ fit and sound, which is smooth in that it doesn’t favour either treble or bass.
The best over the head earphones you can get right now, hands down.
Best console: Sony PlayStation 4 Slim
One of the world’s best-selling consoles has been on a diet. The PS4 is now slimmer, lighter and even cheaper, especially this Christmas time.
All major retailers (including JB Hi-Fi, EB Games and Target) carry the PlayStation, with some great bundle deals starting at $439.95.
With visuals that are more realistic and vivid than what is even possible to see with human eye sees, why wouldn’t you want to spend Xmas in another dimension?
You can also now step that up a notch and step inside that world with the PlayStation VR headset, where you will feel like you’re actually part of the game.
Sony’s VR headset is the future of gaming, and is precisely why the PS4 is our console of choice this Xmas.
Best gadget for modern nostalgia: Polaroid Snap Touch
Remember the good oil’ days when you’d take your gigantic Polaroid camera out just for the benefit of instantaneous photos? No?
Well, whether you did or you didn’t, there’s a new camera in town, built on the same premise as before but with some pretty neat tech baked in.
The Polaroid Snap Touch is an instant digital camera that allows you to snap, print, and share all of your favourite photos instantly with app-driven creative and new Bluetooth connectivity.
Thanks to Zink Zero Ink technology, photos print out instantly without the need for ink cartridges as the ink is built into the photo paper.
There’s also a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen in the back so you know what’s going to be coming out before you hit the print button. Worthless in the iPhone age, but perfect for nostalgic memorabilia. It’s available now for $184.
Best wearable: TomTom Spark 3
With GPS, heart rate monitoring and timing tools all in one fitness tracker, the TomTom Spark 3 is an ideal Christmas gift for those looking to get back in shape right after the Christmas binge period.
Aimed at runners, cyclists and gym-goers fed up with taking their smartphones on the gym floor, the Spark 3 lets users track activity every sprint, stroll and step as well as see the total time, distance and the calories burned.
But best of all, the Spark 3 features built in storage for songs and uses Bluetooth to synch to wireless earphones (included) so you don’t have to take your smartphone everywhere you go when working out, giving you more freedom to run, jump or dance around.
Being one of our favourite fitness tracking wearables of 2016, the TomTom Spark 3’s $199 price tag is — in our opinion — worth every penny. There’s also cheaper alternatives available if you’re not too fussed about he built in music function.
