A VIOLENT, drunken brawl involving around 30 people erupted at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne on Saturday night.
About 80 police officers attempted the break up the drunken fight, which spilled across two train platforms. The chaos caused trains to stop just before midnight.
Victoria Police used capsicum spray to break up the brawl, but a number of smaller fights then broke out, including the one on the platform, which halted trains for about five minutes.
Five people have since been arrested. Two men, one in his 20s and the other in his late teens, from Westmeadows in Melbourne’s north were arrested for assaulting police, along with another man in his 20s from Reservoir, in Melbourne’s north. Two other men were arrested for being drunk.
It is not believed anybody was injured and police are investigating why the fight started.
The Herald Sun reports people involved in the brawl were antagonising police officers.
A second fight also broke out at the Swanston Street Station and the front entrance was blocked off.
Police were still monitoring Flinders Street Station at 2am.
