Comedian Joel Dommett tries to cool down with a bush shower on I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!

THE UK press is freaking out over the “fatal” weather that I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! contestants will face in Australia this weekend.

Eight contestants are left in the UK version of the show that is being filmed on the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland in the Springbrook National Park at the moment.

Some of the alarming (albeit excessive) headlines that have run in UK news outlets include:

“THIS WEATHER IS DANGEROUS AND CAN KILL. I’m A Celebrity jungle stars at risk as ‘fatal’ heatwave set to sweep Australia this weekend.” — The Sun

“I’m A Celebrity holds crisis talks as ‘fatal’ heatwave set to sweep Australia and older stars at risk.” — The Mirror

“I’m A Celebrity in turmoil over FATAL risk to campmates.” — Entertainment Daily

According to The Sun, temperatures are “expected to go as high as 44 degrees celsius” this weekend near where the show is filmed.

A severe heatwave is expected across most of Queensland this Friday, Saturday and Sunday but the Bureau of Meteorology told news.com.au this morning that it’s unlikely for temperatures to rise above the mid-30s in the Springbrook National Park.

A source told The Sun that the remaining contestants have been reminded about the dangers of the Australian sun by producers.

“All the contestants need to keep hydrated and be reapplying sun cream regularly,” the source said.

“This weather is dangerous and can kill. Even Aussies won’t be out in the midday sun.’’

Ambulance boss Tony Hucker also spoke to The Sun and warned this weekend’s weather could be fatal.

“Heat stroke can actually kill you,” Mr Hucker said.

“Once your brain gets to the temperature of about 40 degrees, it’s dangerous. We need to get that temperature down as quick as we can otherwise it can be a fatal outcome.”

Several news outlets in the UK are particularly concerned about the welfare of 69-year-old contestant and actor, Larry Lamb

“The older contestants, particularly Larry, could find themselves in bother if they try and do anything too strenuous in that heat,” a source told The Sun.

Another source told The Mirror: “Larry has been threatening to quit since early this week and if conditions deteriorate in camp it could be hellish for him.”

Other contestants left in show are Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas, comedian Joel Dommett, Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt and former Premier League footballer Wayne Bridge.

A 2014 poll in the UK found that British people consider 21C as the “ideal” temperature but consider 28C “too hot.”
