A 56-year-old man has been found dead in a house at Launceston in Tasmania's north after allegedly being assaulted by a number of people.
Police were called to the home in suburban Summerhill about 1:30am.
There officers found a man with "significant injuries, consistent with an assault that had occurred from an altercation between the occupants of that address", police alleged.
Shortly after the discovery, a man aged in his 30s was taken into custody at a nearby address in Prospect.
Police said he was assisting them with their enquiries.
An investigation is underway, with detectives and uniformed police at both addresses.
