WALKLEY-award winning TV journalist Liz Jackson has revealed she has Parkinson’s disease.

Jackson will be returning to Four Corners where she reported on politics and war for 20 years, winning nine Walkley awards for excellence in journalism including the Gold Walkley in 2006 as well as three Logie Awards.

Her return for the 55-minute special program will be to document her story as she comes to terms with the illness.

In 2013, Jackson left the show as her health collapsed and she began to lose her physical strength and ability to write.

“I’d looked forward to getting fit and healthy and seeing more of my friends. But it proved to be the opposite,” Jackson said.

The 66-year-old was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and admits that it hasn’t been easy to reveal the news to the world.

“This is a very hard story for me to tell because it involves exposing my current condition to a public audience,” she said.

Jackson’s partner Martin Butler, who collaborated with her in the making of this program, revealed none of the medication or treatment that she’s been receiving has worked to help her.

Jackson documents her experience as she tries to understand her illness, questioning doctors and comparing experiences with fellow patients, in the program.

*A Sense of Self: Four Corners, reported by Liz Jackson for Contact Films and presented by Sarah Ferguson, airs on Monday November 21 at 8.30pm on ABC & iview.
