Tom Holland as Spider-Man in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War.
YOU’D think that Tom Holland would have received a call from his manager or from Marvel to let him know that he’d won the role of Spider-Man.
Nope: he found out on social media.
The 20-year-old actor, who appeared as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, recalled how he found out he’d landed the huge role.
“I was in my bed scrolling through Instagram,†the English actor said to The Hollywood Reporter.
“It had been about a month since my audition. And Marvel just posted a photo saying ‘Go to our website and find out who the next Spider-Man is’. I went on the Marvel website on my computer and there it was: The new Spider-Man is Tom Holland. I went ballistic, like absolutely nuts.â€
After his role in this year’s Captain America movie, Holland will next be seen in a stand-alone Spider-Man movie called Homecoming which is due out in July next year.
And that’s just the beginning.

“They give you options, and those could be exercised whenever,†he said about his deal with Marvel.
“Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies, though. I do know I have three Spider-Man movies and three solo movies contracted.â€
Landing the role of the web-shooting superhero was a dream come true for Holland, who has idolised the character for years.
“I reckon I had 30 Spider-Man costumes over the years since I was a little baby,†he said to THR.
“I had Spider-Man bed sheets. Two years ago, I went to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man and looked like an absolute idiot.â€
Holland rose to fame after playing Billy Elliot on the West End for three years and made his big screen debut in 2012 alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in The Impossible.
Having signed such a big deal with Marvel though, it’s safe to say he’ll be known for his Spider-Man films from now on.
