A man is fighting for his life after crashing a suspected stolen car into a brick wall in Melbourne's east early Saturday morning.

The man was driving the grey Audi 4WD on Burke Road near Faircroft Avenue in Glen Iris when he crashed off the road about 2.50am.

The unidentified driver had to be cut from the car by MFB crews and was taken to The Alfred hospital with life-threatening injuries to his head, chest and legs. Nobody else was in the car at the time.

A Mercedes parked at the property was damaged after being struck by a wheel that came off the crashed Audi.

Police believe the Audi may have been travelling along Toorak Road shortly before the incident and are seeking to speak with witnesses are anyone who saw the car in the lead-up to the incident.

Investigators believe the car involved in the crash was stolen. The driver is yet to be identified and investigations are continuing.

CCTV footage of what's believed to be the stolen car travelling over the intersection of Burke and Toorak roads has been released by police.
