The new information was revealed during a bond hearing overnight for 45-year-old Todd Kohlhepp, the man charged in the kidnapping. The woman apparently had earlier made a statement to investigators that she witnessed her boyfriend, Charles Carver, get shot.

Before the hearing, the Spartanburg County coroner said that a body has been found at the property, but could not confirm who it may be.

Police said the woman told them other bodies may be on the land, and they’re still working to determine if those claims are true.

Prosecutors said they were confident at least one murder warrant would be issued.

The woman was found Thursday inside a container in a rural part of the county. Police said Kohlhelpp, who works as a local real estate agent, owned the land.

Brown was found after police were tipped off to the sound of banging on the container from the inside, in the town of Woodruff 128km northwest of the state capital of Columbia.

The tip reportedly came from a sex crimes investigator. When officers got close to the container they could hear 30-year-old Ms Brown banging frantically on the metal.

The metal container she was captive in was 9m long, 4.5m and 3.6m high.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Ms Brown had a chain around her neck. He says she told deputies she had been kept in the container for two months and had been fed regularly. The sheriff said a registered sex offender identified as Todd Christopher Kohlhepp has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Wright said Ms Brown told investigators that there might be four bodies on the property, but investigators have not yet confirmed that information.

“We’re trying to make sure we don’t have a serial killer on our hands,” Wright said. (It) very possibly could be what we have.”

The find had traumatised the police and paramedics who were first on the scene.

“This is tragic … that this person was being treated like that,” Wright told reporters. “We need your prayers for this lady.”

“It was pretty emotional, to say the least, when she was found — especially when she was chained like a dog. She had a chain around her neck! Its only by God’s grace we found that little girl alive.”

He told WYFF, an NBC affiliate, they found lots of weapons and ammunition on the property. The search of the sprawling property is expected to continue for some time.

Police are using backhoes and other tools to search the large property.

Wright said Ms Brown and Kohlhepp knew each other but police are still trying to establish the exact nature of the contact.

The Greenville News reported Ms Brown may have worked for Kohlhepp, who is a real estate agent.

Leah Miller, a close friend, said Ms Brown helped Kohlhepp clean houses and clear properties before he offered them for sale or rent.

“I was supposed to be helping Kala, but I recently had neck surgery. I’m just in shock, wondering if she tried to reach me to help her before she disappeared. I’m happy that she is alive, but my heart is breaking because we don’t know what’s going on with Charlie.”

Kohlepp will be charged with kidnapping, and other charges are possible.

“He’s currently incarcerated. We’re trying to get all this sorted out and figure out what were going to charge him with. One of the charges will be kidnapping, it could be murder. It could be a number of things.”

Brown and Mr Carver had been in a relationship and recently moved in together before they vanished. Mr Carver was in the middle of getting a divorce from his wife, according to Fox News.

The circumstances of their vanishing act troubled those who knew them, who insisted the behaviour was out of character.

Mr Carver’s car was missing from outside their apartment, where their door was left unlocked. Inside, their dog had been left without food or water, and the couple’s medication had been left inside.Their phones were switched off.

The search for the couple made headlines around the world last month when new posts mysteriously appeared on Mr Carver’s Facebook account.

Mr Carver’s profile picture changed on Sept. 6 and then a message appeared saying they just packed up and left and that they were fine.

But the couple’s family feared the account was hacked and someone other than Mr Carver or Ms Brown were making the posts.

Last month, news.com.au reported whoever was controlling the account was sharing and “liking” the missing pages set up by the couple’s families, including a Go Fund Me campaign by Ms Brown’s family to raise money for a private investigator.
