REBEL Wilson has broken down during an emotional acceptance speech at the Australians in Film Awards in Los Angeles.
The 36-year-old picked up the inaugural Annette Kellerman Award, named after the Aussie swimmer-turned-actress, which honours trailblazing Australian women in Hollywood.
Accepting the award, Wilson described how hard she’s worked and honoured her late father.
“We both overcame a lot of obstacles and naysayers to have a big international career … I have worked very hard to get here,†she said.
“The last time I saw my father was at the family and friends screening of Pitch Perfect, at the same cinema I used to work. He was really proud, and I know he’d be proud of me now.â€
She also joked about working at the cinema even after scoring her first movie.
“I remember being in my first movie, and still working at the movies,†she said. “It was really bad, because the movie was playing and at the end of the movie I was standing with a trash bag.â€
Suicide Squad star Jai Courtney was also in attendance and picked up the Foxtel Breakthrough Award.
“I do feel like I’ve achieved great success,†he told The Daily Telegraph. “I do feel like I’ve made it — I’ve been calling myself an actor for many years without having to resort to alternative employment. That’s a pretty clear indicator.
“The last few years have been good to be, I had a few that were pretty rough before that.â€
