THE hunt is on for a “scumbag” who tossed a helpless 14-week-old pup into a creek and left it to die in a shocking act of animal cruelty on the Central Coast.

Video footage — which has gone viral with nearly a million views since it was posted on Wednesday — shows a young man loitering around a Bensville couple’s property before he picks up the young french bulldog and heartlessly throws her away “like a rag doll”.

Bensville couple Jayde Bennett and Michael Byrnes have been left devastated after “one of our babies” miraculously survived the ordeal last Friday.

It’s been a year from hell for Ms Bennett and Mr Byrnes, who had two of their other beloved dogs — Bam Bam, a three-year-old french bulldog, and Alby, a 12-year-old American Staffy — go missing six months ago in suspicious circumstances.

The couple have set up a Facebook page — “Bring home Alby & Bam Bam” — in the hope of tracking down their dogs which have not been seen since April 8 around a new Bensville estate.

“It’s been a nightmare,” Ms Bennett, a senior property manager, said. “These are all our babies and a big part of our lives.

“We were so upset after the other dogs were taken, and now this happens to our new baby (Prada). It’s been like, ‘oh God, we can’t go through this again’.”

In CCTV footage of the latest incident, a “low-life” is seen walking over a small bridge about 8.30am before stopping and calling over the playful pup, with the couple’s other french bulldog, six-month-old, Armani, nearby. He picks up the dog and flings it into the creek and wanders off without a trace.

Ms Bennett said the couple had cameras installed around their six-acre property after Bam Bam and Alby were stolen.

“I left for work about 8am and it was very lucky that my partner (a landscape gardener) came home from work a few hours later and saw Prada was missing,” the 25-year-old told the Express Advocate.

“He freaked out and looked on the CCTV and you can see he’s raced down to save our baby who had made it to the side of the creek and was shaking. It was a miracle she survived. She could have drowned.”

Ms Bennett said other CCTV footage showed the same young man “snooping” around her property.

“He was looking for something to steal,” she said. “And one of our neighbours had a motorbike stolen around the same time as this guy was on our property.”

She has reported the incident to the RSPCA and is waiting for a return call.

“I want the scumbag who did this to be named and shamed. And I want charges brought against him,” Ms Bennett said.

Comment is being sought from the RSPCA.
