Once resigned to reporting the news that happened, journalism today is a much more up-to-the-minute and as-it-happens affair, with daily live blogs on everything from your morning commute to the US election debate.

But nowhere is this new era more obvious and the transformation more profound than in the battle for Mosul. Never before have armies broadcast their intentions, their movements and their actions as in the last 24 hours.

This is where war is literally happening before our eyes. It even has its own hashtags: #MosulOps, #Mosul and #Mosul_Offensive. The thought of live war is frightening. You can read the latest on Mosul here.

A less bloody but outrageous battle continues to rage in the US, where Donald Trump is now at war with everyone for "rigging" the US election. Paul McGeough has a guess at what Trump will do on election day if he loses, while Nick O'Malley says there are suspicions Donald Trump is using campaign to pave way for new TV network.

Nick Miller reports from London where Julian Assange claimed his internet connection was cut by a "state party" because of WikiLeaks' role in exposing Hillary Clinton's emails. Ecuador has owned up to it.

Jewel Topsfield and Amilia Rosa are following closely the case of Australian Sara Connor, who told Bali prosecutors she was innocent of the murder of Bali police officer Wayan Sudarsa.
