SHE’s undoubtedly one of Australia’s finest singers, with a career spanning multiple platinum singles and albums — so where on earth has Vanessa Amorosi been?
The star made a rare appearance on Australian television this morning, appearing alongside Eurythmics legend Dave Stewart and Aussie rocker Jon Stevens to announce a joint musical project.
She had little to say but the singer, now LA-based, did tell Today’s Richard Wilkins she was missing Australia.
“I know, I miss home, I really do,†she told him.
Speaking about her new home city, Amorosi said: “The energy is awesome and it is good for the creative brain ... this city also has a lot of creativity going on, but it will be nice to go home.â€
She, Stewart and Stevens will play a Stakes Day concert in Melbourne on November 5.

It’ll be a rare opportunity for fans to see Amorosi in action, as it’s now been seven long years since she last released an album, 2009’s Hazardous — home to the multi-platinum number one single This Is Who I Am.
Plans for a follow-up album, V, faltered in 2011 when a couple of pre-release singles failed to dent the charts. The album was shelved and Amorosi parted ways with her record company, Universal.
The following year, Amorosi insisted she was upbeat about the record label split, saying “I am incredibly excited and confronted about the future but challenging myself is what propels me to the next level.†She also said she was working on a memoir to be released the following year.
Since then, Amorosi has been largely US-based, and uses social media sparingly to keep in touch with fans — she’s made just two posts to her official Facebook and Twitter pages in the past 12 months.

This isn’t the first time Amorosi’s gone AWOL — the 35-year-old has never courted the world of celebrity between musical projects, with fans enduring an eight-year wait between her chart-topping debut album The Power in 2000 and its Aussie follow-up, 2008’s Somewhere In The Real World.
While she may be absent from the airwaves, the Absolutely Everybody singer’s credentials remain unquestioned — in 2013 she placed 15th in a fan and industry-voted poll of the greatest Australian singers of all time.
“One day Vanessa will find an unbelievable song to match her unbelievable voice,†Daryl Braithwaite said at the time.

Others in the industry were unanimous in praising her vocal chops.
“She has one of the greatest rock chick voices of our time,†Anthony Callea said, while fellow Australian Idol alumnus Shannon Noll said she “has one of the best female voices in the worldâ€.
“Vanessa’s vocals are effortless and her tone and vibrato perfect,†Troy Cassar-Daley said. “She can do the Janice Joplin thing which is great but when she sings soft she has a vulnerable quality in there that kills me every time.â€
