The theory comes after the reality star’s diamond cross was reportedly found, as she beefed up her security detail to “presidential levels”.

According to TMZ, the reality TV star’s US$33,180 (AU$43,716) platinum-mounted diamond crucifix from famed jeweller Jacob and Co was found the day after the heist.

A passer-by reportedly discovered the bling on the pavement outside the Paris apartment where the 35-year-old was attacked on October 3.

According to US Weekly, a Paris police official says the piece of jewellery was not dropped by accident.

Instead the burglars set-up a sophisticated “double bluff” escape ruse in which one of the five men fell off a bicycle while another pretended to accidentally drop a piece of jewellery as they fled, the source said.

“They wanted us to believe that they were amateurs, but all the real clues point to them being extremely sophisticated professionals,” the police official old the magazine.

“There is no way a gang like this would drop stuff and fall off bicycles — all that was done for any cameras that might be in the area.”

“It is far more likely that they played around on bikes for a few minutes after stealing the jewels, and when they still had their masks on, before they all got into a van and disappeared.”

The source added: “That’s why (the found jewellery) was of low value compared to the other pieces in the haul.”

Meanwhile, the brunette beauty is upgrading her security detail and has met with ex-Israeli army members, ex-CIA agents and former Secret Service agents, TMZ reports.

According to the report, the new detail will be armed and two guards will be with the mum-of-two at all times. Her car will also be armoured.

Her mother, Kris Jenner, is also looking to assemble a team for her other daughters, Kourtney, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie.

It’s not clear how Kim’s bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, will fit into the new line-up.

When Kim was robbed, Duvier was out protecting her sisters at a Parisian nightclub.

HollyoodLife.com reports the social media star is also considering firing her children’s nannies due to security fears.

“Kim’s nestled under her children and hasn’t let North or Saint out of her sight since being reconnected with them,” an insider said.

“She’s literally become mamma bear, and is just extremely over-protective of them.”

The insider added: “She’s talking to Kanye and is seriously considering firing all the nannies. Not because they’re not doing their jobs, but because she has trust issues now and the last thing she wants is someone f---ing with her children.”

Kim begged for her life after five masked gunmen stormed her luxury apartment and held her at gunpoint before they made off with more than US$10 million worth of her jewellery.

Her rapper husband and their children North, three, and Saint West, 10 months, were in New York at the time.
