GINGER Spice Geri Halliwell has announced she’s pregnant with her second child at the age of 44, in news that throws much-hyped Spice Girls reunion plans into disarray.
It’s Halliwell’s first child with her husband of just over a year, 42-year-old F1 boss Christian Horner, and a sibling for her child from a previous relationship, 10-year-old Bluebell Madonna.
After Halliwell seemed to announce the pregnancy with slightly cryptic social media posts, her team released a statement confirming the news.
“Geri and Christian are absolutely delighted to announce they are expecting their first child together,†the statement said.
“The couple is overjoyed with the good news and cannot wait to welcome the newest addition to their family.
“Geri married Red Bull Formula 1 Team Principal Christian Horner at a ceremony held in a parish church at Bedfordshire in May last year, where Geri’s daughter Bluebell was a bridesmaid.â€
The joy may not be shared by all in Spice Camp, however — eagle-eyed fans of the world-conquering girl group have already noted that Scary Spice Mel B has unfollowed Geri on Instagram fairly recently, possibly in the wake of finding out about her bandmate’s pregnancy.
Mel B did the same to Sporty Spice Melanie C around the time rumours started swirling that Melanie C would not take part in any Spice Girls reunion — news she later confirmed.
What does this mean for a Spice Girls reunion? Have five become two — is GEM (Geri, Emma, Mel B) now just EM?
Back in June, the three-piece Spice Girls launched a bare-bones website and a homemade “announcement†video promising that, while members Melanie C and Victoria Beckham had declined to take part, they’d have something in the works to celebrate the group’s 20th anniversary.
However, it’s hard to imagine any big Spice-related activities taking place for the foreseeable future with one of the three willing members now pregnant.
