DESPITE being in the throes of a high profile Hollywood divorce, Angelina Jolie is not letting her acting career suffer.
The 41-year old actress is reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming film Shoot Like a Girl, a biopic drama about the Afghanistan war.
Although well known for starring in a number of action movies, Shoot Like a Girl will be the Academy Award winner’s first action film in six years, her last being The Tourist and Salt in 2010.
Shoot Like a Girl is a biopic based on air force Major Mary Jennings Hegar who was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After finishing at the top of her class as a helicopter pilot, she went on to serve three tours in Afghanistan.
Her last tour in the Middle Eastern nation ended with a harrowing rescue attempt that would earn Hegar the Purple Heart, one of the highest honours in the military. Her helicopter was shot down and she was then shot by the Taliban but, despite all this, she managed to save the three Americans she had been sent to rescue as well as her own team.
Hegar was also instrumental in ending the military’s ‘Ground Combat Exclusion Policy’, a policy that stopped women from officially serving in combat roles.
Jolie’s most recent on-screen acting role was the 2015 period drama By The Sea, a film she also wrote and directed. Despite starring in the film with her soon to be ex-husband Brad Pitt, their star power wasn’t enough and, after a limited release, the film was a box-office flop.
