PAINED screams were heard in the minutes before the body of a woman was found in a north eastern suburbs home in Adelaide on Friday night, neighbours say.

Police are treating her death as suspicious.

Patrols were called to Bunbury Tce, Valley View just after 10pm in response to reports of a disturbance.

They arrived to find the body of a woman in a house and another woman in a neighbour’s yard.

The second woman was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

Major Crime and Crime Scene detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

They have cordoned off the house and the neighbour’s driveway.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said he heard loud, pained screams for up to 10 minutes before emergency services arrived.

“We could hear screams going on around 10 o’clock,” he said.

“There was a woman laying on the lawn...and she was absolutely screaming.

“It looked like the police had trouble getting in (the house) to start with and then we heard ‘we’ve got one’.”

Another neighbour, who also wished to remain anonymous, was left shaken by the incident.

“We didn’t know what was going on,” she said.

She said a young family, including up to three children, lived at the house.

“We wonder what’s happened to (the children),” she said.

Another neighbour said he did not hear the incident but was woken by police knocking on his door shortly after.

“It’s a bit of a shock,” he said.

“I’m hoping it’s not a random thing.

“It’s usually a pretty quiet street.”

Nine News reports the woman who died was a grandmother aged in her 50s and police will not reveal the cause of death.

It is believed her daughter in-law was bound and gagged.

Nine News reports police are hunting for two suspects and believe it was an invasion gone wrong.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
