A guard rail pierced the cabin of a car when it rolled on Melbourne's Western Ring Road overnight, leaving two men injured, one critically.
Police said the black Mercedes rolled on the highway at Keilor East about 12:40am.
The two Truganina men, both aged in their 20s, were trapped in the car briefly before being taken to hospital.
The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries while the driver suffered minor injuries.
"The railing has actually gone inside the cabin … trapping both the occupants of that vehicle," MFB commander Craig Williams said.
"Rescue crews had to actually work to remove the railing that was twisted inside the vehicle … before they could actually release the people from the car."
Detectives from Victoria Police are investigating the incident.
