A man was shot in the face.

A NSW Police spokesman told news.com.au that police were called to a Mountain Ave, Woonona property about 2.30pm today by a man who reported that he had been shot.

“Police believe he was shot elsewhere before getting into his car and driving to Mountain Ave,” he said.

“He has suffered severe facial injuries and has been airlifted to a hospital in Sydney.”

His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The police believe the shooting was targeted and a search is currently underway in the local area.

NSW Ambulance confirmed a man had been transported to St George Hospital for treatment in a stable condition.
