Australia has recorded an increase in job advertising around the nation.

ALL states and territories had more jobs up for grabs in August than a year earlier with 4.7 per cent growth in listings nationally.

Figures from online job board SEEK reveal the Australian Capital Territory and South Australia experienced the biggest increases, with listings jumping 15.5 per cent and 14.6 per cent year on year, respectively.

New South Wales (9.4 per cent), Victoria (up 6.5 per cent), Northern Territory (4.7 per cent), Western Australia (2.1 per cent), Tasmania (1.4 per cent) and Queensland (0.6 per cent) followed.

Australia’s top four advertising industries on SEEK were information and communication technology (ICT), trades and services, healthcare and medical, and administration and office support.

ICT listings increased by 10 per cent year on year nationally.

The most in-demand workers were developers/programmers, business/systems analysts, program and project managers, and help desk and IT support workers.

SEEK Australia and New Zealand managing director Michael Ilczynski said he was not surprised ICT was a top advertising industry on SEEK as the nation continued its demand for digital connectivity and new technology.

In trades and services, ACT lead the job growth with a 56 per cent increase year on year, followed by SA (34 per cent), NT (28 per cent), Victoria (26 per cent), NSW (22 per cent), Queensland (9 per cent) and Tasmania (9 per cent).

In WA, trades and services listings were down 21 per cent yet it remained the top advertising industry in the state.

Nationally, automotive trades, labouring, carpentry and cabinet making, and hair and beauty services had the most in-demand workers in the industry.

“A likely driver of trades and services job ad growth across Australia is residential construction and our rising population’s need for service labour like mechanics, hairdressers, beauticians and nannies,” Mr Ilczynski said.

Job listings in healthcare and medical, and administration and office support grew 18 per cent and 13 per cent nationally year on year, respectively.
