YOU’RE broadcast live across the country for being the first person to receive the new iPhone. What do you do?
Give Apple a sweet plug and then shout out to your number one crew, of course.
This is exactly what Marcus Barsoum did at the Apple iPhone 7 launch in Sydney’s CBD.
“Shout out to Bus 14. One team, one dream,†he proudly exclaimed.
“We’re one team and one dream.â€
The 16-year-old then walked off like a rock star, oozing confidence beyond his years.
There had been a media storm since Marcus and three of his friends lined up at the Apple Store three days earlier.
Marcus was the one doing most of the talking and it made sense given he was an iPhone launch veteran, having been 10th in line last year for the iPhone 6S and 13th for iPhone 6 the year prior.
Having experienced the media storm for the previous years, Marcus knew exactly what he was getting himself into.
“I am here for Apple, the media is just a bonus,†he told news.com.au.
Understanding he would have a platform to speak this year, Marcus used it to shout out “Bus 14â€.
So what exactly is Bus 14?
“It’s my Youth Day Group,†he explained.
“Just a few months ago I travelled to Italy, Poland and Vienna. It was the best time ever and I even met the Pope.
“I love each and every single of the pilgrims that came with me.â€
While he was still in line for the iPhone, the school student was already going rogue on live television.
When chatting to Merrick Watts for a live cross with the Today show, Marcus said hello to host Lisa Wilkinson even though he had no way of communicating with her.
This didn’t bother him and he addressed her more than once.
“Even as a high school student having to leave the house at 8am, I turn on Today show and make sure my message gets through,†he said.
News.com.au asked Marcus if he was the class clown at school, but what we should have really asked was how as a 14-year-old two years ago he convinced his parents he was going to live on the streets for a few days.
Regardless, he answered the former.
“I am indeed the joker at school. Everyone is watching live and I love it,’ he said.
News.com.au did a Facebook Live with Marcus shortly after he got the iPhone and he didn’t let the moment slip.
“It feels amazing, here we’ve got the brand new iPhone 7 — first unboxing world wide,†he said on camera.
“At first I was disappointed I wasn’t getting the jet black, but, honestly, I don’t mind. This [matt black] is fabulous. This is such a spectacular finish.â€
Another of the group, Mazen Kourouche, already has ties with Apple.
He was the winner of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scholarship reward, which meant he got to attend the conference in San Francisco.
The 18-year-old university student already has six apps on the App Store, but it was his iPhone app Medyc that secured his place as WWDC.
The app helps find your nearest clinics, save appointments and track your medication to always be on top of your health.
You are all lords, the lot of you.
