JUST when it looked like Salim Mehajer was coming to terms with his apparent estrangement from his wife he has begun furiously posting images of her to his social media account.
Twice in just four hours, the former deputy mayor of Auburn council has taken to Instagram to upload pictures of Aysha, who now goes by her maiden name Learmonth.
Meanwhile, Salim’s announcement that he was set to leave Australia seems to have come to nothing. While a source close to the family told news.com.au he was “taking a break†it seems to be on home soil.
And he is certainly not taking a break from social media or pining after Aysha. Salim has taken to posting “throwback†pictures of himself, asking his 133,000 followers to “guess his ageâ€.
Two such posts from late on Thursday featured his wife. Yet the couple haven’t been seen together for months and the posts are certainly not recent.
One image shows the Mehajers clutching a ‘Ferrari parking only’ sign which we’re not convinced is a standard issue NSW road sign.
Another shows what appears to be a much younger Aysha, prior to the pair’s 2015 marriage, and before she changed her hair colour and transformed herself from April Learmonth of Wollongong to Mrs Mehajer of Lidcombe.
“People really do change. It’s a Throwback Thursday, stunning,†he wrote.
In the image the pair are handcuffed together but she well and truly seems to have unshackled herself from the marriage.
In contrast, Aysha’s Instagram page has no images of her husband and instead it is full of selfies.
The sudden re-emergence of his wife on Salim’s Instagram account is all the more surprising because he appeared to have moved on from his troubled marriage.
Constance accompanied Salim in the wedding party and was seen dancing with him at the reception. She is obviously well liked by the family and posted a picture of herself and Salim to Instagram after the wedding festivities, with Salim’s sister Aiisha adding the comment “love you guysâ€.
But if the recent posts are anything to go by, Salim’s heart only has room for one.
The property developer, who is trying to break into the beauty market with a range of Mehajer branded toiletries, also seems to have gone back on a plan to leave the country.
Earlier this month, Salim posted a picture to Instagram of a large boat with the cryptic message “Good-bye Australiaâ€.
“Will be taking off to pursue my dream challenges,†he wrote. “I’ll be back.â€
But either he got back a lot sooner than expected or he never went away in the first place.
Salim has since deleted the post with most subsequent images looking distinctly Australian.
There had been speculation that a tax debt may have prevented Salim from leaving the country. But the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) told news.com.au people were not automatically stopped at the airport if they had failed to pay their dues.
“The Commissioner has the power to issue a departure prohibition order which prohibits the tax debtor from leaving Australia,†the ATO said in a statement. “This power is exercised in a very small number of cases.â€
The ATO said it preferred to “find a mutually acceptable solution†to individual circumstances.
Salim appears to be still looking to find a mutually acceptable solution that will bring he and Aysha back together.
