BARBRA Streisand has become the oldest person to score a No. 1 album in Australia.
At age 74 Streisand’s album Encore topped the ARIA chart this week.
Indeed the superstar — Streisand has a shopping mall in her home — breaks her own record, when she scored a No. 1 album in Australia in 2014 with her duets album Partners, aged 72.
Streisand has had three No. 1 albums in Australia, the first being Guilty in 1980, her collaboration with Barry Gibb.
Encore, her 35th album, outsold the Suicide Squad movie soundtrack by almost 2 to 1 to top the ARIA chart. Her album is also number one in the US and the UK.
David Bowie is the second oldest performer to top the Australian chart — sadly just a few days after his shock death.
Bowie’s album Blackstar was released two days before his passing on January 10 this year — he was 69 when it reached No. 1 on January 18.
John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John were both 66 when the live recording of their Two Strong Hearts joint tour reached No. 1 in Australia last June.
Brian Johnson was also 66 when his former band AC/DC reached No. 1 in Australia in December 2014.
Bruce Springsteen was 64 when he last topped the Australian charts in 2014.
In the US Tony Bennett scored his first No. 1 album aged 85 with Duets II in 20011; the album peaked at No. 2 in Australia.
In the UK Dame Vera Lynn became the oldest person to top their chart in 2009 when she was aged 92, the record was previously held by Bob Dylan.
Last year Paul McCartney became the oldest person to have a No. 1 single in Australia when his collaboration with Rihanna and Kanye West, FourFiveSeconds, topped the ARIA chart.
The record was previously held by Cher who was 52 when Believe made No. 1 in 1999.
