It wasn’t much of a surprise when Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer stepped out as Hollywood’s newest gal pals.
Both of them are sarcastic and hilarious, and both are appreciated for being blunt and telling it how it is. Even in times of tragedy.
Amy Schumer was interviewed by Lena Dunham last night for Lenny Letter where she spoke about receiving a text from Jennifer Lawrence the day of the Trainwreck cinema shooting.
The shooting, which happened in July last year occurred at a screening of the film in Lafayette, Louisiana, resulted in the death of two women.
Schumer, who wrote and starred in the blockbuster was heartbroken at the tragedy and while spending the day feeling partly responsible, she received a text from Lawrence.
“It’s your fault,†she wrote.
For us mere mortals this might’ve been the fatal blow in an already horrible day but for Schumer, it was the moment she felt closest to Lawrence.
“In times like that only jokes make you feel a little bit better,†said Schumer.
Dunham agreed saying “Jennifer Lawrence texting “It’s your fault†is like the greatest worst thing I ever heard.â€
Following the shooting, which she admits still kills her, Schumer immediately became an advocate for gun safety.
The comedienne urged lawmakers to support a gun control bill sponsored by her cousin Senator Chuck Schumer which looked to close the loophole allowing weapons to be sold without background checks at gun shows and online.
“I got to go to the White House with my brother and my sister when Obama signed his executive order on gun control, and all these people were there, all these victims of shootings. All these people who joined this movement to try and help stop gun violence, and they come over and they are like, “Thank you, because nobody listens to politicians, they listen to celebrities, so thank you, please keep helping us,†she told Dunham.
“Hearing that, and seeing Obama deliver that speech — like, tears just shot right out of his face when he started crying about the first graders being shot — I was just like, I am a lifer, I am in this. I really hope I don’t have to die for it, but I would.â€
Schumer also admitted to Dunham she has increased security at her comedy shows following the shooting.
