A MAN has been shot dead by police after attacking a nurse and stabbing a policewoman in suburban Paris.
The nurse was attacked after taking a call to a house in Vincennes on Friday morning, Le Parisien reported.
When police arrived at the house, the 29-year-old suspect stabbed a policewoman in the neck before he was shot dead by the officer’s colleagues.
The stabbed police officer was taken to hospital and was believed to be in a stable condition.
The above tweet by Pierre 1er reads: “Cops and firefighters, street closed at Vincennes.â€
Locals reportedly said they heard gunshots as the suspect made a run for it.
A motive for the attack has not been established but authorities told local media the suspect had recently left a psychiatric hospital.
The attack came just three days after another policewoman was stabbed in Toulouse in southwestern France by a man shouting that he was “sick of Franceâ€.
The attacker, an Algerian man, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. His victim was taken to hospital for stitches to neck injuries.
France is on edge following a series of attacks including the Charlie Hebdo, Bataclan Concert Hall and Nice atrocities.
Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said the country could be rocked by more attacks.
He told Le Monde: “The weakening of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is a factor that increases the risk of attacks.â€
